Thinking About Switching to Contact Lenses?

Contact lenses offer a clear, convenient, and comfortable eyeglasses alternative

To start wearing contacts, you will first need a contact lens exam and fitting. Because the contacts rest directly on the eye, they require more precise measurements than those for your glasses prescription. During your exam, we will:

  • Measure your eye’s unique shape, including the cornea (the front surface of your eye) and pupils so your contacts fit your unique eyes.
  • Assess your tear production and check for signs of dry eye syndrome. Healthy tears and a healthy eye surface are crucial for contact lens wear.
  • Explore the different lens types to find the best fit for your lifestyle and vision needs.

Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

Daily disposable lenses are soft, single-use options designed for safety, convenience, and comfort. Ideal for occasional wearers, they require no cleaning or storage, reducing the risk of irritation and infection, and making them hassle-free and hygienic.

Multifocal lenses are designed to correct presbyopia, a vision error that affects near vision as we age. These lenses come in both soft and RGP options, and offer both distance, near, and intermediate vision correction for a smoother visual experience.

Scleral contacts are a type of RGP lens designed for individuals with irregular corneas or severe dry eye. Larger than standard lenses, they vault over the cornea, creating a tear-filled reservoir that enhances comfort and visual stability. This design helps provide clear vision while addressing various corneal conditions.

How the Cornea Effects Contact Lens Wear

Contact lenses rest on the cornea, the eye’s outermost surface, making corneal health essential in determining the right lenses for you.

The cornea directs light into the eye and focuses it onto the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back. When the cornea is dry or irritated—often due to conditions like dry eye—wearing contacts can become uncomfortable, contribute to dryness, and lead to blurry vision. Additionally, conditions such as keratoconus can alter the cornea’s shape, complicating the fitting of contact lenses.

Keratoconus

Keratoconus causes the cornea to thin and bulge into a cone shape, leading to distorted vision. Scleral or RGP lenses are often recommended for better fit and improved vision correction.

Corneal ectasia is the progressive thinning and steepening of the cornea. It can occur even after laser eye surgery. Custom RGP or scleral lenses can provide support and clear vision.
